x-wing pilot
Just for a change, I fancied doing
an outfit from the light side of the force. X-wing pilot anyone ? I seem to have
a pull towards pilots and drivers.
Once again, the internet was my friend, I
went to the supplier of my TIE flight suit and found that they sell the x-wing
pilot jumpsuit, including the vest. So that got ordered fairly quickly.
The vest requires tubing in the
pockets to make them stand up, so that's a trip to the fish shop at some point...
The boots and gloves from my TIE pilot should pass muster, thus saving
duplication.
These
are code cylinders, that fit into a pocket on the suit. They need to be painted
silver.
There's quite a bit to source : the helmet, flare holder & flares
for the leg, the chestbox and webbing. Just so much to buy and so little money !
I'll sort the AT-AT driver first, then move on to the X-Wing pilot.
What that actually means is, while I'm waiting for the AT-AT
to be sorted, I will order the bits for the X-Wing.
First, the helmet. A check with Andy Rodgers finds that he
doesn't do X-Wing bits, so I checked the Rebel Legion forums for reputable
makers. I settle on Sand Props, based in Poland, who seemed to get decent
reviews. I contacted Chris via facebook and sent him my design for how I want
the helmet to look. I'm not going for the usual designs, I'm not really that
bothered about clearance for this. If it clears, it clears. It's more of a
'let's have a go' type thing.
This is how I would like it to look :
I took a normal helmet and paintshopped the design around
until I was happy with it. Hopefully, it will be a singular design (as in,
no-one else will want one like it !)
After a few weeks, Chris sends over a progress report :
He apologised for the blue not
being the correct shade, I let him know that picture I sent was a 'would like',
not a 'must be'. I'm fairly relaxed about this one.
Another requirement is for various
belts & straps, which I discover yet another person on facebook can supply. It
amazes me that their are so many small suppliers of bits servicing the costuming
industry. Thank god, or I would have to attempt these myself, and that would be
disastrous. Anyroadup, Paul at Twin Suns Textiles accepts my order, and another
bag of stuff arrives :
That'll
be a bag containing the ejection harness (top), belt (centre) and leg flare
holder (bottom). Paul also sends me the measurements for the flares that go in
the belt loops, so I will get to practice my diy skills by chopping up bits of
dowel and painting them a pleasing silver colour. It's coming along quite
nicely, really.
